A Cornwall-based site-specific theatre company is looking to engage with local communities by offering training to support its next performance.

Wildworks has announced the launch of a Crowdfunder campaign to support a range of training opportunities for its new show for summer 2022, I AM KEVIN.

Despite having just launched this week, the company say the campaign is already garnering much support, including a very generous donation from actor and television producer, Michael Sheen. Michael starred and co-directed, alongside Bill Mitchell, The Passion of Port Talbot which was a co-production between Wildworks and National Theatre Wales in 2011.

A long-time supporter of Wildworks, Sheen publicly commented on the campaign, saying: "Wildworks are a constant source of inspiration, delight and challenge.

"Very best wishes for the new show."

This vital community support will make it possible for the team to offer on the job training over an eight-week period across a variety of critical roles including costume assistant, technical assistant and community engagement coordinator, who will be working with over 100 community participants and volunteers throughout the production process.

Wildworks says it will endeavour to provide key training and experiential opportunities for those looking to forge a cultural career.

The paid positions will run through July and August 2022 with the posts open to anyone who feels they would benefit from a high-level training opportunity with a cutting-edge theatre organisation.

With this funding, the team will also coordinate a number of student work placements, with the monies contributing towards travel and catering expenses, costumes or any equipment needed.

Those who donate towards the Crowdfunder, which will run until Tuesday, March 8, can enjoy benefits and rewards such as early access to tickets, limited edition gifts, VIP tickets and experiences and even the opportunity to have their name included in the show.

Emma Hogg, Wildworks Executive Director, said: "The last two years have been very challenging for theatre freelance creatives and especially for those in the embryonic stage of their careers.

"We want to create a range of training opportunities in our delivery team and for three of those roles to be paid employment.

"In fact, it is really important to us that these positions are paid because otherwise we risk limiting the applicant pool to those who can afford to work on an unpaid basis and many people are simply not in the financial position to do so.

Over the next few weeks, the company say there will be open calls for local residents to join free activities with more details to be shared in due course.
