It’s the day of love so what better time to find out the best UK locations to propose, marry and honeymoon?

Welsh accommodation provider, Sugar & Loaf, thought much the same and embarked on research to discover the most romantic staycation destinations, finding out some heart-warming proposal stories along the way.

Their data revealed Cornish surroundings do seem to bring out the romance in people, coming out as the number one UK location to honeymoon and the third best place to propose.

Proposal stories to warm your heart

Somerset

“My husband planned to propose on holiday in Exmoor National Park. He planned a trip to the Tarr Steps, where there is an ancient bridge over a river - the perfect proposal spot!

“We put the Tarr Steps into our Satnav and left.

“The roads got smaller until we were on a dirt track. It didn't feel right, so my husband decided to turn around at a field entrance but there was a horrible crunching noise and the car wouldn't budge!

I got out and looked under the car. It was hooked on a boulder! There was nothing we could do except call roadside recovery. They said we were so far out of the recovery area, we'd be waiting all day!

“So I got down on my hands and knees and tried to dig the boulder out with my bare hands, hoping to free the car! We gave up and went for a walk in the countryside while we waited for the tow truck to help.

“In a gorgeous spot, my husband proposed! The photos show my hands caked in mud, with dirt under my fingernails.

“He said that the minute he saw me jump into action to try to dig the car out, he knew he didn't care how it happened, he just wanted me to be his wife!”

Lake District

“We climbed high into the clouds amongst the wind and rain, it was the first time I had ever been to the Lake District.

“My husband traditionally went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes!

“He was in the Royal Navy at the time and had just returned from a seven-month deployment along with the most beautiful engagement ring - I’m a very lucky lady.”

Southeast Wales

“Just the two of us, on a dog walk, with a glorious sunset overlooking the Black Mountains.”

Lake District

“Beautiful early-morning walk up Helm Crag, my then-boyfriend proposed at the top over a lovely picnic of smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, and prosecco!

“The sun even shined!"
