Two Conservative MPs in Cornwall are predicted to lose their seats to the Labour party at the next general election, according to polling data.

Both George Eustice, MP for Camborne and Redruth, and Cherilyn Mackrory, MP for Truro and Falmouth, are predicted to lose their seats to red opposition at the next general election according to a poll of polls by the Electoral Calculus.

The data focuses on polling throughout January and shows that Labour have a 54 per cent chance of taking George Eustice's seat of Camborne and Redruth and a 71 per cent chance of unseating Cherilyn Mackrory for Falmouth and Truro.

The Packet reached out to both MPs for their thoughts on the data, but only received a response from Cherilyn Mackrory, who said: "I tend not to speculate about any polling on what could or couldn’t happen if there was a snap election.

"I just want to get on with the job I was elected to do - help and represent those in the constituency I represent.

"Firstly, there isn’t going to be a snap election and secondly, this is not local polling so does not paint a representative picture of local feeling.

"Since my election in 2019, two years ago, I have been a constituency MP, on the ground here in Cornwall, helping constituents and businesses get through and subsequently recover from a pandemic.

"In those two years, my team and I have helped over 30,000 different constituents with their issues and concerns. An unprecedented amount.

"During my time as the Member of Parliament for this area, the NHS in Cornwall has received record funding, including writing off Royal Cornwall Hospital’s historic debt to the tune of £40 million, and I have secured the new Women and Children’s Hospital we have coming to Treliske.

"I have also secured a new secondary school for the constituency, overseen the dualling of the A30 - a major infrastructure project in Cornwall, secured £23.6 million for the Truro Towns Deal and am working closely with key stakeholders in Falmouth to clean up the River Fal and ensure Falmouth plays a major role in the UK’s renewable energy sector. In total, this constituency has benefited from circa £500 million in two years by having me as their local MP.

"I am proud of the work that I am doing as a local, constituency MP and I will continue to do all that I can to ensure that our children get the best possible start in life, and to make this part of Cornwall the best possible place to live, work and grow up in."
