It is being reported that Cornwall Council's cabinet has just called an "extraordinary meeting" to decide the future of Ships and Castles, meaning it could close within a week.

Campaigner Ben Leach from Pendennis Leisure is urging people to contact MP Cherilyn Mackrory and cabinet members Richard Pears, Linda Taylor, Robin Moorcroft. David Harris and Cllr Carol Mould.. "If we don't stop this now, where will they stop?" ·

Posting on Facebook Mr Leach said: "Sorry to jump into your days like this, but this is very important for our community.

Please share your love and passion for our leisure centre and our headland on the comments, and in your email to our MP and to the Cornwall Councillors deciding our future.

We need this to be shared far and wide and for 100's if not 1000's of emails and comments to be seen by our MP and our councillors.

He told the Packet: "They've brought forward potentially this decision from March 24, I believe to next Friday. They're not necessarily going to make a final decision but we simply can't takje the risk. There are lots of nuanced elements to it as there have been, like them adding a budget line for revenue support for all the threatened centres in Launceston, Wadebridge and Falmouth. So the urgent need is about galvanising the community right to say we need to make our voices heard with power in numbers."

Cornwall Council confirmed that an Extraordinary Cabinet meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday March 4 at 10am.

An agenda has been posted here, but nothing is on it yet.
