Employees from Hotel Meudon have been helping revive local beaches with environmental groups One Bag Beach Clean and Plastic Free Helford River, as beach clean events hosted by the groups saw waste collections total 191.9kg last year.

Building on their existing commitment to daily beach cleans at Bream Cove, the team at Hotel Meudon teamed up with One Bag Beach Clean and Plastic Free Helford River to take part in a mass cleaning event, donning their pickers and buckets to do a sweep of Bream Cove over the course of 1.5 hours – with 2.7kg of rubbish collected in total.

Sam Banks, Hotel Meudon manager commented: “Our team is committed to ensuring our guests and local community can enjoy the beautiful beach as it should be, free of waste. It made sense for us to partner with One Bag Beach Clean and Plastic Free Helford River to support their dedicated beach clean events and make our daily beach clean work go further, as they do such fantastic activities within our community by bringing businesses together for the good of our local environment.”

The event was one of over 30 which are hosted annually by One Bag One Bag Beach Clean and Plastic Free Helford River, which collaborates with other local businesses including Clean Ocean Sailing to recycle collected items wherever possible. Last year, the events saw 289 volunteers take part.

Plastic Free Helford River, which is part of the Surfers Against Sewage Plastic Free Community network has also awarded Hotel Meudon ‘Plastic Free Champion' status, after it committed to removing multiple single-use plastic products from its business.

This included the removal of plastic straws in Freddie’s Bar, using recyclable cardboard boxes for the hotel’s picnic and future takeaway initiatives, and introducing refillable toiletries.
