Helston Athletic's Orlando Anker has today been crowned Toolstation Western League Fans player of the month.Β

Anker, who signed from South West Peninsula League outfit Newquay, earlier in the season beat off close competition from Ali Boyer from Cadbury Heath, Jack Taylor from Bridgwater United and Will Hailston from Keynsham Town to win the fan-voted award.

It has been an impressive month for the young winger who seems to have found his feet at this level, scoring four goals and notching one assist in the month of February.

The pick of the bunch came against Millbrook at the beginning of the month when he came off the bench to score the game-winning goal. Beating his man with a 'Ronaldo' like step over before smashing in a left-footed shot into the far corner.

His goals and driving wing play have reignited Helston's top-four hopes after a woeful run of form over winter.

Their resurgence has seen them go five games unbeaten in all competitions and this afternoon they travel away to Clevedon to face the Somerset side for the second time in a week.

Speaking to the Packet earlier in the week Helston Athletic Manager Steve Massey was pleased his signings run of form but added the youngster still has more to learn in the game: "He has bags of potential, he has been good for us. He has still got to learn, he has lots more to learn about having more pace and power in his game rather than the trickery and stepovers.Β

"He wants to learn as well. He is having an extended run in the team at the moment, if he can convert more of the chances he gets he could have had double the goals!

"He has to be much more clinical but he can become as well as a tricky ball-playing winger he can become a really good goal scorer!"

Helston's away match against Clevedon this afternoon kicks off at 3 pm. It is the first of three away ties on the bounce for the Blues, who aren't back at home until Saturday, March 19 when they host Brislington at Kellaway Park. Β
