A FALMOUTH man helping evacuate Ukranian refugees across the border Poland and beyond has appealed for help in funding his mission as his savings rapidly dwindle.

Ben Gingold is currently in Ukraine at driving families across the border into Poland to safety all day and every day.

He says doing this is rapidly exhausting his savings but the horrors he has seen is driving him on.

"I'm in Ukraine driving families across the borders to safety all day every day, but I'm rapidly exhausting my savings," he said "Any small donation you provide goes to directly to the rescue of a Ukrainian family.

"The horrors we see on the news are indescribably real, I don't know how someone could ever wish this upon anyone. To all those who donated already, and those who will, thank you."

Mr Gingold says a lot of people have asked him how they can help people in Ukraine.

"Now that I'm here, I can tell you!" his says in a post on his fund raising page. "As I'm writing this, I'm actually on the way to Germany, delivering a grandmother from Ukraine to her relatives in Berlin.

"We left Ukraine this morning after a sleepless night in city basements, listening to air raid sirens and endless explosions. They estimate that more than 30 missiles struck near the city here last night, our worst night so far.

"I've spent the last week on the ground in Ukraine, delivering families across the borders to safety, working closely with the Ukrainian Red Cross and other aid organisations.

"I often make three trips to Poland and back in a day, loaded up with families and their belongings on the way out, and bringing medical and humanitarian supplies back in. I've been so busy that I'm burning through my savings faster than expected, so to keep on helping I'm having to ask for donations."

He says the donations will directly help Ukrainians by covering the cost of fuel to move people around.

"When people have nowhere to go, I get them to the Polish Red Cross on the other side of the border, where they can find food, shelter and free transport onwards. When they have relatives to stay with, I deliver them right to the door - wherever in Europe that may be.

"The cost of food - as we are often waiting in border queues for hours on end, I always stock up on water, sandwiches, and treats for the kiddies.

"Medical and humanitarian supplies - when I asked the Ukrainian Red Cross if I could direct donations to them they told me they don't need money when there aren't enough supplies for them to buy. So, instead, they tell me what they need, and I bring all the supplies back with me into Ukraine."

Mr Bingold says if people want to donate to a well known charity, he would recommend the Polish Red Cross. "The work they are doing on the border is amazing. I will send any unspent donations to them in the future," he said.
