A Redruth man who beat his victim twice in the same month was sentenced by magistrates in Cornwall last month.

Lewis Colin Simmons, 28, of Bassett Road, North Country, Redurth, appeared at Truro Magistrates' Court on Friday, March 11 on two counts of assault by beating.

The offences both took place in Newquay where, on September 19 2021, Simmons assaulted another man by beating him.

Then, less than ten days later, he again assaulted the same man by beating him.

Simmons pleaded not guilty to both incidents when he first appeared in court on Monday, January 10 but was eventually found guilty of both counts of assault by beating.

During his sentencing, Simmons was committed to prison for 23 weeks due to the serious nature of his offences and was also made the subject of a restraining order, in which he was told not to contact his victim, directly or indirectly, as well as being banned from a location in Newquay.

He was also made to pay compensation of £500 and pay costs of £500 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Simmons was also made to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £128.
