A driver stopped by police for speeding at 129pm on the A30 through Cornwall then added extra insult to when he began playing a game on his phone while being spoken to.

As a result the driver will be finding themselves before a court, following the incident on the A30 in Camborne earlier this week.

The Devon and Cornwall Roads Policing Team spotted him driving at 99mph, with a top speed of 129mph.

However, reporting the incident on Twitter afterwards, a team member said: "During police stop [the] driver felt the interaction was so unimportant he decided to play a game on his phone.

"Driver reported to court for re-education."

And it wasn't the only speeding offence where drivers exceeded 100mph on Cornwall's roads in the past fortnight.

On Wednesday last week the same roads policing team stopped a driver travelling at 103mph in the 70mph speed limit at Chiverton Cross.

Police have now notified the DVLA that the vehicle is off the road, having been seized by police and the driver reported, with the team saying: "Slow down and arrive alive."

Just two days earlier the roads policing team were patrolling the A30 in Cornwall as one of their "identified high harm routes", and recorded a vehicle travelling at 104mph.

"This one was way too fast and it's just not worth it. Don't put yourself and others at risk, not to mention your licence," said the team.

Finally, as a reminder that's it's not just excessive speed that police watch out for, one motorist was stopped while driving through Hayle last week due taking an "important call" on their mobile phone.

The team said: "Driving through Hayle busy with school children and other pedestrians while on your mobile taking that 'important call' is not acceptable.

"Driver reported and thank you for the passing thumbs up."
