The owner of Helston's new escape rooms that are soon to open has explained more about what they will look like.

Helston’s HSBC bank which closed in 2017, has seen builders entering the property over the past few months, and now we know why.

Millie Edwards owns Cornwall’s Great Escape Rooms in Newlyn and has now decided to expand her business to Helston.

Millie, who has friends and family who live in and around the town, said she realised there wasn’t much for families to do here, especially on rainy days.

She took over the old bank, located at the top of Coinagehall Street, at the beginning of April and is in the process of building three new escape rooms.

An escape room, also known as an escape game, puzzle room or exit game, is a game in which a team of players discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks in one or more rooms in order to accomplish a specific goal in a limited amount of time. The goal is often to escape from the site of the game.

Helston's escape rooms will be located on the ground floor and the basement, with the top two floors of the building used for holiday lets.

But Millie has made plans for the rooms which belong to her. One room will be a fairy tale theme, but with a little bit of darkness involved, and the basement room will be an ‘escape the bank’ room. The room will have the original vault, which was previously used for the bank.

She also plans to make one room into a scary room, as it has long dark corridors, and lots of little dark rooms.

The first room will hopefully be finished by the end of May, and there are plans in place for a reception area for a café, with board games available.

Millie, who is a boardgame fanatic, told the Packet: “There will be boardgames and card games in the café, I love boardgames through and through, and this is why I love designing these rooms.

“The rooms will make people work as a team, and some puzzles can be for the children.”

Up to seven people can attend at one time to the rooms, and Millie hopes it will bring work parties, families and locals in.

Millie has started an early bird offer, and if you book now you will receive 20% off your first visit via the website https://www.cornwallsgreatescaperooms.co.uk/ with job opportunities also available in the upcoming months.
