THE latest weekly Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly indicate 495 people tested positive in the seven days up to Tuesday, May 17, down from last week’s total of 713.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay.

The weekly case rate average is now 548 cases per 100,000 people, up from last week’s figure of 120.1.

For this figure, the Government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic now stands at 159,132.

The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK in the last seven days is 63,296, down from 102,089 last week. This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 22,203,799.

When it comes to recent hospital admissions in Cornwall up to Tuesday, May 3 – the most recent data given by the Government updated weekly – there were 41 patients with the virus in Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust hospitals, with no patients in a ventilation beds, and nine patients in Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust hospitals, with none on ventilation beds.

National figures show a total of 9,619 patients with the virus in UK hospitals as of Monday, May 9, the most recent data, down from 13,027 last week, with 214 in ventilation beds, down from 302.

The combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic stays at 484 with no new deaths reported.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust since the start of the pandemic stays at 406, with no further deaths reported since the last update. The Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust has reported 78 in total since the start, with no more deaths since the last update.

The Government’s update shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – has risen to 913 deaths, with five additional deaths in the 28 days since a positive Covid case as of Tuesday, May 17.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate is updated weekly and sits at 934 following 14 more deaths up to May 6 – from data available this week.

Within the last seven days, the overall UK figures show 986 more people having died within 28 days of their first positive test result.

Total UK deaths since the start of the pandemic now stand at 194,550 as of Friday, May 6.
