Sides in the local area have been formulating their pre season plans ahead of the 2022/23 season.

It seems the football season has only just finished but teams are already looking ahead to the new campaign with some publishing their full pre season fixtures this week.

Both South West Peninsula League West (SWPL) sides Wendron United and Penryn Athletic have announced their full schedules while Falmouth Town and Helston Athletic have a match confirmed but no full fixture list yet.

Falmouth Town's only confirmed game so far is their annual Aubrey Wilkes Trophy clash with Southern League outfit Truro City. A Ryan Brett brace plus goals from Rio Garside, Tyler Harvey and Dan Rooney secured a 5-0 win for Truro in the fixture last year. This years match will be played on Saturday, July 9 at Bickland Park with kick off at 3pm.

Penryn Athletic, who will be managed by Micky Hunt heading into the new season, have finalised their pre season plans. The Kernick Road side finished 13th in the league table last season and have four games lined up beginning with a home matches against St Piran League side Mousehole Reserves on Saturday, July 9.

Two more home matches follow that with matches against Helston Reserves on Saturday, July 16, and St Austell Reserves on Saturday, July 23. All the home ties kick off at 3pm. Their last and only away tie is on Saturday, July 30 is away to Wendron Reserves on the last Saturday in July with kick off at 2:30pm.

Helston Athletic haven't released their full schedule yet but Steve Massey did confirm to The Packet that his Helston side will play a friendly against a side at Premier League outfit AFC Bournemouth's facilities in mid July, the opponents for that fixture have not been announced yet.

Wendron United will look to build on their strong 2021/22 season in the following campaign. They finished third in the SWPL West and were narrowly defeated in the final of the Cornwall Senior Cup where they lost 1-0 to Falmouth Town.

Michael O'Neill has built a strong side at Underlane and have five matches scheduled for July beginning with St Piran League side Porthleven at home on July 2, before playing Mousehole on July 5. Their only away match will be away to Ivybridge in their next game on Saturday, July 16. Two more home fixtures fulfil the matches with midweek clashes against Plymouth Argyle on July 20, Royal Navy U23s on July 26.
