THE latest weekly Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly indicate 460 people tested positive in the seven days up to Tuesday, May 24, down from last week’s total of 495.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay.

The weekly case rate average is now 79.9 cases per 100,000 people, down from last week’s figure of 548.

For this figure, the Government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic now stands at 159,546.

The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK in the last seven days is 57,540, down from 63,296 last week. This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 22,238,713.

When it comes to recent hospital admissions in Cornwall up to Tuesday, May 17 – the most recent data given by the Government updated weekly – there were 17 patients with the virus in Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust hospitals, with one patient in a ventilation beds, and one patients in Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust hospitals, with none on ventilation beds.

National figures show a total of 6,729 patients with the virus in UK hospitals as of Thursday, May 19, the most recent data, down from 6,729 last week, with 194 in ventilation beds, down from 214.

The combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic stays at 487 with three new deaths reported.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust since the start of the pandemic stays at 409, with no further deaths reported since the last update. The Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust has reported 78 in total since the start, with no more deaths since the last update.

The Government’s update shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – has risen to 919 deaths, with six additional deaths in the 28 days since a positive Covid case as of Tuesday, May 24.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate is updated weekly and sits at 944 following 10 more deaths up to Friday, May 13 – from data available this week.

Seven day death figures for the UK are no longer being published by the government.

Total UK deaths since the start of the pandemic now stand at 195,347 as of Friday, May 20.

The latest vaccination figures show a total 53,398,518 people in the UK have had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 49,895,254 had their second dose. A total of 39,585,631 have had their booster jab or third dose.

In Cornwall 464,552 have had their first dose, 444,729 their second and 370,408 their booster.
