A triathlon is making its Newquay return later in June as 'The Goat' open water event is set to take place at the seaside town.

The Newquay Tri and Kids Duathlon (run-sprint-run) known as 'The Goat' is the first open water event of intoTRI's Cornish Tri Series 2022 which features six races across the county for both adults and children.

Newquay’s bays, cliffs and headlands will play host to adult races in the morning, with distances from beginner friendly Super Sprint to the savage Sprint and Olympic distance races.

Wave starts at Tolcarne Beach Village, will see athletes run through a spectator lined funnel to the water’s edge before taking on a 375m (Super Sprint), 750m (Sprint) or 1500m (Olympic) swim.

The transition zone on the Barrowfields, overlooking Newquay Bay, is the starting point for three spectacular coastal bikes routes of 9k, 20k and 38k in length. Sprint and Olympic races feature fierce climbs at Watergate Bay and Porth Beach, fit for mountain goats.

The final off-road run along the coast path to Porth Beach (3k, Super Sprint), Trevelgue Head (5k, Sprint) and Watergate Bay (10k, Olympic) showcases some of the finest scenery in the country. Age group winners will be presented with prizes sponsored by Snugg Wetsuits, Whirlwind Sports and Giant Helston at the event village on the Barrowfields.

In the afternoon, junior athletes get to test their mettle in the fast and furious Micro Duathlon (run-bike-run) for five to eight year olds (non-timed), as well as the Mini Goat, with competitive Duathlon races for eight to 16year olds over various distances.
