PATIENTS at Helston Community Hospital enjoyed the Platinum Jubilee celebrations with their loved ones and a cream tea.

Due to the Covid pandemic over the past two years, restrictions meant visitors couldn't come and see their families and friends in hospital. Now restrictions have lifted, patients were allowed to have visitors in with them as they took part along with the staff to celebrate.

One patient was joined by his daughter for a cream tea in the garden on a very warm day. David and daughter Tamsin sat in the sun and talked about David's time as a teacher in the county.

Malcolm was joined by friend Gina, and spoke about the walking group Malcolm runs in Carharrack.

The patients also were able to watch the Service of Thanksgiving yesterday and waving their flags with excitement.

Progress co-ordinator and veteran lead Neill Wilson said the patients loved the occasion and staff were happy to see the patients spend time with their loved ones.

"We've been their family for the past 18 months, so it's nice to see them socialise with their families," Neill added.

Over 40 cream teas were made for the patients, by the kitchen staff. And all the staff seemed happy to be enjoying in with the festivities.

Staff nurse and end of life lead Bryony Tresidder said: "We wanted to celebrate the Jubilee, especially after the past 18 months, and to help keep them up-to-date with current affairs like the Jubilee."

Along with the patients and their visitors, the staff also enjoyed a cream tea with another, to talk about the Queen and her achievements over the past 70 years on the throne.
