Fixtures have been announced for the opening day of the Toolstation Western League (step five) which will take place on Saturday, July 30.

Both Falmouth Town and Helston Athletic will kickstart the season on home turf. Town are back in the division for the first time since the 1982/83 season, while Helston will head into the campaign under new management with Matt Cusack taking over from Steve Massey at the helm.

Falmouth will host Wellington at Bickland Park to start their season. Town eased their way to the South West Peninsula League Premier West Title last time out, losing on just one occasion, a 3-2 home defeat to St Blazey.

Their opening day opposition finished in the lower regions of the Western League last season, ending the year 14th in the table. They did go unbeaten in their last six games though, finishing the year on a high with a 3-0 drubbing of Helston at Kellaway Park.

It will feel like de-ja-vu for the Helston outfit who will begin this season by playing the same opponents as they did on the last day of the 2021/22 campaign in Bridgwater United.

That match was in the semi final of the Les Phillips Cup though, as in a tight game Bridgwater edged past an injury hit Helston with a 2-0 win with two goals coming in the last ten minutes.

Helston finished ninth in the league last season.

There is an all Cornwall affair in the East of the county as newly promoted Torpoint Athletic will face Mousehole, other Duchy sides in action see Saltash play Clevedon Town and Millbrook travel away to another new side in the division Sherborne Town.
