A business owner from Redruth has kindly offered the chance to take children to their proms this summer - free of charge in his convertible Mercedes E-Class.
Andy Thomas, 54, who owns his own taxi business, wants to help parents who are finding it hard to be able to afford transport to their children's proms due to the current financial crisis and the global pandemic.
Andy, who said he is fully DBS and CRB checked, told the Packet, said the whole aim was to do something nice for young people in the community, adding: "I am not promoting my business, I just want to give something back to our community."
The idea came when Andy noticed a lot of young children walking to their prom and thought it would be nice if he could help. He has since had a few other people who have got in touch with him to say they have done the same and taken local children to their proms.
Unfortunately with the pandemic and financial crisis affecting a lot of family homes, for some people it is causing a massive impact on their day-to-day living, which is another reason Andy wanted to help.
Andy has already got bookings from Falmouth, Hayle, Redruth and Camborne, and will be taking some of the children up to Tregenna Castle, St Ives for their prom.
There have also been offers to help Andy, including another Mercedes driver who said they would be happy to help out.
And it won't just be the use of the Mercedes - Andy has also said he will make sure he looks presentable when escorting them to prom, with a nice shirt and a tie.
