Wendron United have announced Cam Quirke as their first signing of the summer.

Quirke, who plays in midfield, signs on a dual registration basis alongside his current step five club United Services Portsmouth FC who play in the Wessex Premier League.

He will add competition to a Wendron side who finished third in the South West Peninsula League and runners up in the Cornwall Senior Cup last season.

Speaking to the Packet on the signing, Dron's Manager Michael O'Neill said: "Any player that is going to improve us I am keen to make sure that we add them where we can. Competition for places is really healthy across the board, he did play for us just before Covid and had two/three games on the dual registration setup.

"With the way things panned out work took him back up to Portsmouth for the last 14/15 months. It was a good opportunity to get him back in. He is someone who has stayed in the group chat, it is good to have him back full-time from September onwards."

O'Neill hinted that there could be a couple more additions to his squad ahead of the 2022/23 season. He said: "We will try to improve where I think we need to, there is movements to bring one or two other players in, when they are over the line that is when we will make that public. At the moment the focus is on getting back into pre-season and keeping the lads together from last season."

Dron's pre-season training commences on Wednesday, June 22 ahead of their first friendly at home to St Piran League West side Porthleven on Saturday, July 2. It is the first of a five game set of matches for the Dron who will go on to play Mousehole First Team, Ivybridge Town, a Plymouth Argyle Development squad and lastly Royal Navy U23.

Their league season begins on Wednesday, August 10 away to Newquay AFC at the Mount Wise Stadium.
