Organisers of the Falmouth Sea Shanty festival have said everything is scheduled to go as planned today - but they will keep an eye on the weather.

Day three of Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival is due to start today after a number of stage were closed yesterday due to heavy rain and high winds.

Unfortunately, rain is forecast for today, although it is now not forecast until 4pm, but town centre manager Richard Gates told the Packet that everything today was going ahead as planned.

Falmouth Packet:

There have been a couple of changes to programme so the website has been updated with the latest version. Please refer to this version for all the latest updates, they're marked in red!

The weekend festival got underway in bright sunshine and high temperatures on Friday and although Saturday got off to a great start in warm sunshine, by mid-afternoon heavy downpours and strong winds meant the organisers had to close the outside stages.

The Skinner's Stage at Events Square was the first to be temporarily closed just after 4pm, before organisers came to an eventual decision at 5.15pm to shut the venue for the duration of the night.

This led to the cancellation of the Fisherman's Friends, along with a number of other acts. The Seasalt Stage, the Church Street Stage and The Pier Stage were also closed.

A post on the organisation's Facebook page said: "It’s with huge disappointment that we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel all performances at Events Square this evening.

Falmouth Packet:

"Fisherman's Friends will not be performing this evening. The wind speeds are such that we must consider your safety first."

Mr Gates told the Packet this morning: "It's pretty much going ahead at the moment for the Sunday but we will keep it under review because of the weather forecast.

"We had to make the decision to close some of the stages yesterday because everybody's safety was paramount. It was absolutely the right decision.

We will keep an eye on the weather today. Yesterday we had rain forecast but we had bright sunshine for much of the day."

Last night a sold out gala performance took place at the Princess Pavilion and today there is a full schedule of events due to take place although some could be affected by the weather. You can see the full programme HERE.

The festival was due to start at 10am with Bones at The Windjammer with other performances scheduled at venues all over the town starting at 12noon and 1pm.
