This weekend saw 86 members tee off at Falmouth Golf Club on Saturday in tricky conditions.

The event was won by Steve Jones who battled the elements well to card a fine net 66 with respective nines of net 32 and 34.

He put the icing on the cake with a birdie three at the 18th to win by one stroke from Crispin Merritt who also played well to card nines of 32 and 35 including birdies at the 8th and 11th holes.

Ben Browning had an inspired back nine to win the best scratch prize with a gross 71 with birdies at the 6th, 11th, 13th, 16th and 18th holes.

Dave Blizzard who finished fourth with a net 66 jotted down an "Eagle" two at the 11th.

Other twos were recorded by Bob Pine and Paul Kneebone at the 7th.

The easiest hole on the day was the 11th which averaged + 0.22 while the most challenging was the uphill 5th which averaged + 1.80.

On Sunday 18 mixed pairs competed in a strong wind for the generously sponsored Royal Duchy Bowls where Royal Duchy Hotel put up a lot of prizes and are presented by their General Manager John Allen where Brian and Donna Craig combined well to win with a score of 56.

Runners up were Jenny Storey and Ian Moore who also combined well to return the same score only to lose out on the countback.

Ray and Alison Smith took third place with another good score of 57.

This Saturday (July 2), Club President Steve Burrows will be staging his "Presidents Putter" Day.

Steve has already been inundated with sponsors which will ensure a great selection of golf and auction prizes in the evening at the club.

St Austell Brewery have also gifted a drink for all participants of which there are well over 100 already.
