A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds to help pay for the funeral of a 33-year-old woman who was tragically killed while crossing the road on Friday. So far it has raised £350 since being set up a couple of hours ago.

Ekaterina Schofield died whilst crossing the busy A39 between Tremough Campus, Penryn and the new estate in Mabe.

The GoFundMe page has been set up by her friend Eden McCann, who lives in Falmouth to raise money for the funeral expenses.

Falmouth Packet:

He says Ekaterina is originally from Georgia had only been married to her partner Zev Schofield for just under a year and had just recently been granted residency in the UK.

He says financially they were unprepared for this as they were just starting their lives together and is asking people to help support Zev and take away the stress of worrying about funeral arrangements and the expense.

Writing on the page Eden says: "There's lots of words running though my head but nothing that can console my good friend Zev from the devastating news that he received on Friday the 25th June, that Zev's beautiful wife had been in a terrible accident and sadly lost her life.

"With all their future ahead of them, dreams, plans all gone. Life is so precious, hold it tight because nothing could have prepared Zev and his family for this.

"Life seemed at long last to be on their side after such a long process for Ekaterina (from Georgia) to get her residence in the UK.

"Zev and Ekaterina where not even married a year.

"While Zev is processing his grief, what else can we do? We know nothing of his pain and no words can bring his beautiful Ekaterina back, but we can stand alongside him and support him.

"Financially they would have been unprepared for this as they where just starting their lives together.

"I would like your help to support Zev at this time and to try and take the stress away of worrying about funeral arrangements and the expense.

"Please, as a close community can we all come together at this sad time and be thankful we can still hold our nearest and dearest."

The fatal collision in which Ekaterina died involved a Volkswagen van which collided with her on the A39, between Treliever roundabout and Kernick Road Industrial Estate Penryn, at around 9.35am on Friday. The collision happened at the crossing between Kingston Way and the Tremough Campus.

Falmouth Packet:

A petition to for the crossing at the site to made safer has already gained around 3,000 signatures.
