THE latest weekly Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly indicate 1,147 people tested positive in the seven days up to Tuesday, June 28, up from last week’s total of 834.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay.

The weekly case rate average is now 199.3 cases per 100,000 people, down from last week’s figure of 144.9.

For this figure, the Government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

According to government figures, the overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic now stands at 163,342.

The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK in the last seven days is 57,641, up from 57,637 last week.

Last week, the figure for total number of cases in the UK from the start of the pandemic was 22,239,790, same as two weeks previous

However, last week the government's figures claimed the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic is 22,238,713.

The Packet has seen no explanation for the lack of consistent figures.

When it comes to recent hospital admissions in Cornwall up to Tuesday, June 21 – the most recent data given by the Government updated weekly – there were 13 patients with the virus in Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust hospitals, with no patients in a ventilation beds, and six patients in Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust hospitals.

National figures show a total of 7,373 patients with the virus in UK hospitals as of Monday, June 20, the most recent data, up from 5,918 last week, with 175 in ventilation beds.

The combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic stays at 496 with two new deaths reported.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust since the start of the pandemic rose to 417, with one additional death reported since the last update. The Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust has reported 79 in total since the start, with no additional deaths since the last update.

The Government’s update shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – has risen to 929 deaths, with one additional death in the 28 days since a positive Covid case as of Tuesday, June 28.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate is updated weekly and sits at 964 following two more deaths up to Friday, June 17 – from data available this week.

Seven day death figures for the UK are no longer being published by the government.

Total UK deaths since the start of the pandemic now stand at 197,288.

The latest vaccination figures show a total 53,568,338 people in the UK have had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 50,111,302 had their second dose. A total of 39,907,229 have had their booster jab or third dose.

In Cornwall 464,457 have had their first dose, 445,355 their second and 371,600 their booster.
