A MAN who pleaded guilty to harassing a woman for nearly three months has been sentenced by a court in Cornwall.

Adam Whaley, 47, of Dale Road in Newquay appeared in front of magistrates at Truro Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, June 21 on one count of harassment without violence.

The offence took place in Helston between August 1 and October 30 of last year when Whaley pursued a course of conduct which amounted to the harassment of the female victim.

The harassment of the victim included telephone calls, voicemail messages, the sending of flowers, sending cards, sending packages, sending letters and attending the home address of the victim, all while in the knowledge that the contact was unwanted.

During his sentencing, Whaley was made the subject of a community order in which he must take part in a rehabilitation activity for a maximum period of 20 days.

A restraining order was also taken out against Whaley in which he must not contact the victim directly or indirectly and not to enter five different locations around Helston for a period of two years.

The restraining order was put in place for the protection of the victim.

Alongside the community and restraining order, Whaley was also fined £333, made to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £95, and pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The court also noted how Whaley's guilty plea had been taken into account when imposing the sentence.
