A man convicted of assault and a number of traffic offences has been given a three month curfew and banned from driving for 18 months by Truro Magistrates.

Nathan Christopher Robert Turner, 39 of Dudnance Lane, Pool, Redruth was convicted assault by beating, wilful obstruction of a highway, fail to provide specimen for analysis - vehicle driver, use of threatening / abusive words / behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and failing to answer to court / police bail as soon as practicable at an earlier hearing.

Turner had pleaded not guilty to assaulting John Hawthorn by beating him on June 10, 2020, at Redruth but magistrates sitting at Truro magistrates Court found him guilty back on July 2, 2021. He appeared in court for sentencing on June 30.

For this offence he was made the subject of community order with a curfew requirement with electronic monitoring for three months with electronic monitoring starting date June 30 from 6pm staying in his home address. He was also ordered to pay compensation of £175 and Crown Prosecution Service costs of £500.

Turner had pleaded guilty to wilful obstruction of the A393 at Redruth on June 10, 2020 but not guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath as the driver of a vehicle when stopped by the police in Truro on the same day. There was no penalty for the wilful obstruction offence with his guilty plea being taken into account but for the failing to provide a specimen offence, Turner was disqualified from driving for 18 months.

He was told that his disqualification would be reduced by 18 weeks if by May 10, 2023 he satisfactorily completes a course approved by the Secretary of State. His driving record was also endorsed.

Convicted of using threatening / abusive words / behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress on June 10 in Truro, he was fined £75 after entering a not guilty plea.

For failing to answer to court / police bail as soon as practicable on July 2 last year there was no separate penalty.
