A TRURO park and ride closed after travellers moved onto the site will reopen tomorrow following an assessment by various bodies.

Cornwall Council says it is working hard to resolve the issue after unauthorised travellers moved onto the Langarth Park and Ride in Truro this morning, forcing its closure to drivers.

"Council officers have visited the site to carry out welfare, health and education checks and to decide on appropriate next steps, including serving a Direction to Leave which requires families to vacate the site," the council said in a statement.

"If they do not do so the council can apply to the court for an order.

"Langarth Park and Ride was closed today whilst those assessments and discussions took place but will reopen tomorrow (Tuesday, July 5).

"Although the travellers remain on site, the number of vehicles are few and so will not have an effect on the normal operation of the park and ride.

"We are grateful for the cooperation and understanding of the residents and commuters and apologise for the disruption caused but safety is always an overriding consideration."

The Tregurra Park and Ride site remained open today, with services operating to Truro city centre, RCH Treliske and Truro College.
