Western League high flyers of the 21/22 campaign Mousehole produced a dominant display as they Wendron United 5-1 at Underlane.

Braces from Louis Price and Callum McConie plus a belter from Tallan Mitchell notched the goals for Mousehole while Wendron's goal was stabbed home by Ryan Reeve to make it two in two for the former Penryn marksman.

On a beautiful summers day at Underlane the visitors stamped their mark on the game from the off, immediately camping themselves firmly in the Wendron half.

Their early pressure and dominance paid off though as they took the lead through winger Louis Price in the eighth minute. A corner, this time floated into the box rather than played short, was nodded back across goal perfectly onto the feet of the well-placed Price who was able to volley the ball home from close quarters to put Mousehole in the ascendency.

Hayden Turner had his first glimpse of goal after 12 minutes when he sprung the offside trap and beat the onrushing Ethan Fearn to the ball, but the forward's effort could only bobble wide of the mark.

In the next phase of play Wendron poised their first meaningful attack of the half to that point with trialist Jacob Cleverly, Josh Wood and Ryan Reeve all involved in a flowing move, the ball was eventually set back to Jack Stocker on the edge of the box but his shot was well saved by the outstretched hand of the visiting goalkeeper.

Mousehole's Turner was denied twice in one minute soon after when first the crossbar blocked his close-range strike before his second effort, a low placed shot was desperately slid off the line by the backtracking Reece Carroll.

As Mousehole chased a second Carroll was once again in the right place at the right time to swipe a goalbound header from a corner off the goalline after 23 minutes.

But in the next attack the visitors did get the goal they had been hunting and in some style too. Lively midfielder Tallan Mitchell was allowed space and time on the edge of the area to pick his head up, turn, and then lace a deadly strike into the top right hand corner out of the reach of the flailing Fearn to make it 2-0.

Despite the setback Dron continued to threaten on the break and Reeve was unfortunate to see his daisy-cutter strike skid just beyond the far post on 27 minutes.

Billy Stone was introduced from the bench soon after, and was close to scoring when he found space inside the box to meet a Stocker centre but the wingers header was straight at the visiting custodian.

Both sides were guilty of wayward longshots as the half began to draw to a close. Mousehole threatened again with the last play of the half but Paulo Sousa's looping shot sailed over the bar as the sides went in at 2-0.

Mousehole continued to have more of the ball after the break with Wendron looking to hit on the break. Josh Wood looked to emulate his goal-scoring form that earned him a hat-trick on Saturday but his stretching header from a free-kick flew wide of its intended target after 51 minutes.

Despite the Mousehole possession Wendron did get their goal from a piece of quick-thinking in the 54th minute. The Dron won a free-kick right on the edge of the box and instead of taking a usual routine, they hastily fed in Reeve while Mousehole were setting up a wall.

The forward had no time to think with desperate defenders hurling themselves back to block, but that didn't matter as the effort although not his cleanest strike found a way into the bottom corner to halve the deficit.

Wendron owed a lot to Fearn for keeping them in the game as Mousehole looked to return to their two-goal advantage. Safe hands from a Callum McConie free-kick plus bravery to deny Turner on a one v one kept the hosts in the match.

In fact Dron substitute Jack Noy might have felt he should have done better after 67 minutes. A powerful run from Wood got the home side on the counter attack, he picked out Noy who was in on goal but hurried his attempt as it dragged wide left of the target.

This proved costly as five minutes later Mousehole added their third. Price did well to evade the attentions of the Wendron defence before laying on McConie who slotted into the bottom corner.

In the 76th minute a deflected cross fell kindly into the path of McConie who was able to lift his effort into the roof of the net to make it 4-1 as the game grew away from Dron.

Mousehole would complete the scoring with eight minutes of the 90 remaining through Price. A pull back to young winger Jack Symons was swiped at and looked to be going wide of the mark, but according to the linesman Price, who popped up at the far post, had managed to hold his line to tap home to make it 5-1 at the final whistle.

A different challenge for Wendron compared to their 8-1 rout of Porthleven on the weekend. Their next pre-season match is their first away tie of the season with a trip to South West Peninsula League East side Ivybridge on Saturday, July 16.
