A Helston primary school is celebrating 'outstanding' double achievements this week, in and out of the classroom.

Parc Eglos Primary School have achieved the best KS2 SATS results in the history of the school, and the girl’s football club and the girls' cricket teams have both won in their respective tournaments.

After a challenging few years KS2 pupils at Parc Eglos have received their SATS results and Brett Dye, headmaster of the school said: "These are the best results we have ever had by far. What a way to end a challenging year!"

The girl’s football team, which Brett coached, won tournaments in Penzance and Porthleven, as well as reached the county semi-finals. And the girl’s cricket team managed to win all four of their matches at the County cricket finals and are now the Cornwall County Champions.

As previously reported in the Packet, Brett will retire this week, after working at the school since 2008, and Jayne Banner will be taking over his role from September.

One of the most difficult times for Brett was when the government announced all primary schools were to shut down due to the severity of the Covid pandemic. He went on to thank the community for their support at the time and all the help with online learning.

Brett has enjoyed building his staff and pupils’ confidence and seeing staff members progress in their careers.

Brett said: "I leave behind me a very happy team who work together so well. I believe that if you give people ownership and back up their ideas with support, they will thrive and thankfully that is how it has worked out."

Derek Thomas, MP for St Ives, West Cornwall, and the Isles of Scilly has spoken about Parc Eglos's achievements over the past few weeks, telling Brett: "Great result re your children! Just more testament to your lovely and compassionate method of leadership and headship."
