A motorcyclist has been airlifted to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries following a crash in Falmouth this morning.

A van and a motorbike collided in Bickland Hill at around 9.50am today (Friday), causing serious injuries to the motorcyclist.

Police have said he was airlifted to Derriford Hospital via Cornwall Air Ambulance with injuries described as "possibly life-changing."

Traffic monitoring system INRIX reported that the road was closed between the Budock Water turn off and Falmouth Town Football and Social Club for a number of hours today, into this afternoon.

However, it has since reopened.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were notified at around 9.50am to Bickland Hill in Falmouth following reports of a collision involving a van and a motorbike.

"The motorbike rider was taken to Derriford Hospital via the air ambulance with possible life-changing injuries."

Local bus service OTS Minibus and Coach Hire warned of delays and diversions as a result of the road closure.

Posting on its Facebook page just after 11am, it warned: "Due to an emergency road closure at Falmouth Football Club, we are experiencing significant difficulties and diversions to the following services:

"Service 35: Currently unable to serve Budock or Chapel Town Close in Mawnan Smith due to severe congestion and the road closure. We have buses trying to get in to the village stuck on narrow roads and thus have taken the decision to avoid the area completely.

"Service 35 will operate directly between Helford, Mawnan and Falmouth Moor via Lamanva Cross, Union Corner and Trescobeas Road.

"Services 65/65A: These services are currently unable to serve Conway Road. However, they are operating a loop around Kelley Road and Springfield Road as an alternative.

"Both routes are subject to significant and unpredictable delays. Please be patient."
