Former Penryn Athletic Manager Harry Pope will be back on the touchlines for the upcoming football season but for a different outfit.

Pope, who parted company with Penryn in January 2021, has been announced as manager of South West Peninsula League outfit Godolphin Atlantic.

He joins the Newquay based side following the departure of Adam Paterson who has moved away for a new job.

Current assistant manager Josh Stockdale will remain at the club in his post.

Pope told the Packet how the job came about, he said:"I have had a good break, this has completely come out of nowhere. It is a chance I have grabbed with both hands!

"On Monday they gave me a ring and asked if I was interested, I had a chat with them on Tuesday, I watched a game on Wednesday night then accepted the job now here we are!

Pope has it all to do with the season just over two weeks away when Godolphin host Launceston in the opening game of the new season but the opportunity to manage at this level again was something the manager simply could not resist: "I have got my work cut out straight away, as I said it is an opportunity I couldn't let slip." Pope began.

"It will be hard work for the next few weeks with the season starting straight away. it would have been nice to have six/eight weeks pre-season to plan but I am back in! I missed football more than I described, there are no words.

"For me I hadn't had any plans of scrapping management in, I was just going to go and have a season playing for Threemilestone. I had a few weeks and friendlies with them, I scored four goals in five games! Two were from the spot.

"But yeah I was enjoying that, but this came out of nowhere and I thought 'am I ever going to get a South West Peninsula League opportunity to work with young players and an ambitious chairman?' It ticked a lot of boxes for me and I am not going to let something like this slip by. I have some ideas, I have got to get to know the lads. I can't wait to get started."

Pope's first time on the touchline for Godolphin will be on Saturday afternoon as they travel to play St Piran League West side Porthleven FC, kick off at Gala Parc is at 2pm.
