A Cornish brewery has remade a limited edition pale ale to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Goonhilly Earth Station which is holding a festival to commemorate the occasion on Saturday evening.

'One Giant Leap' is the beverage from Sharp's 'pilot plant' brewery in Rock and hopes to 'bring out of this world' flavours to the Goonhilly 60 event that is taking place this evening where the brew will be exclusively sold.

The ale, which sits at a light 3.6% ABV, is a remake of Sharp's popular creation for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing in 2019. Sharps describes the drink as a 'hoppy pale ale brewed with planet malt and galaxy and aurora hops with a taste that is truly extra-terrestrial'.

The beers name originates from Neil Armstrong’s iconic moon landing in 1969, which has a connection to Goonhilly, as the station’s enormous Arthur satellite dish allowed for the Apollo 11 mission to be transmitted across the Atlantic.

The 60th anniversary celebrations taking place this weekend will feature acts providing live performances of some well-known artists, such as the Kaleidoscope Orchestra’s rendition of Daft Punk’s greatest hits and the Dark Side of the Moon Experience which pays tribute to 50 years of Pink Floyd.

Aaron McClure, Sharp’s Brewery’s head brewer, said: “We are really proud to be bringing back One Giant Leap to commemorate Goonhilly Earth Station’s 60th anniversary.

"Brewing this special beer initially for the 50-year anniversary of Apollo 11’s mission to the moon was a truly special task for us.

"The incredible views of the Arthur space dish alongside the backdrop of the stunning Lizard really makes it an event not to be missed. Come down to the Goonhilly 60 festival on the 23rd July and experience some of the amazing live acts, which can be enjoyed with a One Giant Leap in hand.” He added.

As previously mentioned the beer is available exclusive at the Goonhilly 60 event which takes place today, Saturday, July 23.
