An investigation has been launched after one person was taken to hospital following a incident at Flambards Theme Park in Helston.

More details have now been made public about the incident, which took place at around 11.45am on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the park said in involved one of the carriages of the park's Space Race ride.

Reports from people locally suggest that the carriage came off the track, although this has not been confirmed officially.

The Health and Safety Executive is now involved in an investigation to establish the cause of the incident, working with the park's specialist engineers.

The ride has been closed until the conclusion of the investigation.

A spokesperson for Flambards said: "At 11.45am [Tuesday] morning there was an incident at Flambards Theme Park in one of the carriages of our undercover ride Space Race, which caused the ride operator to perform an emergency stop.

"One adult attended Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro to receive treatment.

"The park specialist engineers are carrying out a full investigation in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive, to establish the cause of the incident.

"The health and safety of our visitors and staff is our top priority and as a result the Space Race ride will remain closed until a full investigation has taken place."

The website describes the Space Race ride as "A simply fantastic spinning ride – the Space Race will transport you into darkness where you will reach dizzying speeds through the unknown."

Flambards is now running its summer holiday opening hours, with rides and attractions open seven days a week.

Last week park also confirmed which days it would be running its Firework Spectacular and live music nights through August, on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
