Helston Athletic’s top scorer of last season Stu Bowker has secured himself a new club following his departure from Kellaway Park in May.

Bowker, who notched 23 goals in 43 league games for Athletic, has signed up with fellow Western League opposition Barnstaple Town for the new season.

When Bowker left Helston back in May, their Director of Football Steve Massey said: "I wish him all the best, that's unless he pops up against us! I can't think him enough, he has been a huge ambassador. One thing I can say about Bowks is when he goes out on the pitch he does give you everything."

Well it seems Bowker will be popping up against Helston this season with the sides meeting at Mill Road on Saturday, September 10 at Mill Road with the return fixture on Saturday, April 3 at Kellaway Park.

The move to the North Devon side, sees the striker link back up with Ryan Turner and Billy Tucker who both impressed at Helston last campaign before leaving to join Barnstaple midway through the season.

Bowker's last goal for Helston came in a 2-1 home loss to Exmouth Town in the league on Saturday, April 2 but his tenure at Kellaway came to a drastic end when he landed awkwardly against Buckland Athletic on the last day of the league season and needed medical treatment from an ambulance which resulted in the match being abandoned.

Bowker was eventually released from hospital with inflammation to ligaments to his spine and was forced to watch from the touchline as Athletic crashed out of the Les Phillips Cup in the semi-final against Bridgwater United.

Helston's season kicks off at home to Bridgwater United on Saturday at 3pm.
