Vandalism has led to the closure of a popular outdoor pool for the rest of the week.

Jubilee Pool is Cornwall's celebrated Art Deco lido on Penzance's Promenade.

It is a popular attraction both for locals and tourists, particularly during the summer months.

However, those in charge of the pool have said that as a result of vandalism, involving broken glass, the main pool has been closed for the next few days for an "urgent drain."

A statement from the team at Jubilee Pool said: "Due to some overnight vandalism, we have broken glass in our main pool and it has to undergo an urgent drain down and clean for the safety of our swimmers.

"The pool team are working hard to get this done and get the pool back open. We are aiming to reopen on Monday morning but are looking at ways to speed this process up."

They added that anyone booked into a main pool session between now and the end of Sunday will receive an email about their booking.

Geothermal sessions will run as planned, as this is a separate pool area.

"Thank you for your messages of support while we deal with this issue," added the team.

It is exactly a year since Jubilee Pool was vandalised three times in one month, last July.

At the time the pool team said it was "soul destroying that there are people who will stoop as low as to break in solely to inflict damage, especially given that the pool belongs to the local community."

In an almost carbon copy of the vandalism, the geothermal pool was forced to close early after someone threw glass bottles over and into the pool during the early hours.

Later in the month saw people then break in and cause chaos, throwing food and drink around the cafe area.
