A man who stole a designer tracksuit in Cornwall ended up having to pay only £17 more than it would have cost when he found himself before a court.
Joshua White, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared before magistrates on Thursday.
The 30-year-old admitted stealing a Lacoste tracksuit worth £180 from JD Sports in Truro, on December 7 last year.
He was fined £80 by magistrates, and was also ordered to pay £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service plus a £32 surcharge to fund victim services.
This came to a total of £197 that White had to pay, which it was agreed he would do in instalments.
There is no mention in the court documents of the £180 tracksuit being returned or forfeited.
The court was told that his account would be consolidated with existing accounts, including for out-of-county fines accounts.
Magistrates said that the defendant's guilty plea was taken into account when the sentence was imposed.
