MAGISTRATES in Cornwall have dealt with just two separate cases of offences involving the possession of cocaine over the course of the past month.

Throughout July, only two men appeared in front of magistrates in Cornwall on counts of possession of the illegal stimulant, with both pleading guilty to the offence.

On Monday, July 25, Keith Alexander Cecil-Wright, aged 40, of no fixed address, appeared in front of magistrates at Bodmin Magistrates' Court on one count of possession of a drug of Class A - Cocaine.

The offence took place in Par roughly two years ago, on December 15, 2020, when Cecil-Wright was found to have 0.5 grams of cocaine in his possession.

He pleaded guilty to the offence and was made the subject of a community order in which he must attend treatment for alcohol dependency by or under the direction of as specified by probation service for nine months as well as participate in a rehabilitation activity as required by the responsible officer up to a maximum of 20 days.

The 0.5 grams of cocaine was forfeited to and destroyed by police.

The court noted how Cecil-Wrights guilty plea had been taken into account when imposing the sentence.

Then, on Thursday, July 28, William Shawn Hook, aged 34, of Roskear Villas in Roskear, Camborne appeared in front of magistrates at Truro Magistrates' Court, also on one count of possession of a drug of Class A - Cocaine.

The offence took place in Camborne on Tuesday, July 12 2022 where Hook was found to be in possession of an unspecified quantity of the drug.

He pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined £300, made to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £120, and pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The cocaine was forfeited and destroyed by the police with the court also noting that Hook's guilty plea had been taken into account when imposing the sentence.
