Helston's former nightclub is under new ownership after it was bought at auction.

The Trelawney's building at 25-27 Coinagehall Street was put up for auction at the end of last month.

It was one of 118 lots in the fifth sale of the year by auctioneers Clive Emson.

It was listed with a freehold guide of £250,000 to £275,000 and sold for the lower range estimate, with the hammer going down at £250,000.

Senior auction appraiser Dave Henwood said: “The new owner has acquired a well-located venue in a popular town centre.

“There is the potential for some form of continued leisure use although some type of residential or mixed-use scheme is clearly an option, subject to the necessary consents.”

When building went up for sale the auctioneers said that it was most recently let at £26,000 per annum.

There is no indication at this time of what the new owner plans to do with the building.

The three-storey town centre venue includes bars, a dance floor, cloakrooms, toilets and offices, staff accommodation, with four rooms, a bathroom and kitchen on its second floor.

The nightclub, which has been formally known as Big T's and The Boxx over the years, has always one of the popular places to go at the end of a night out in Helston.
