Local grass root charity 'Cirque Du Ciel' is raising funds for its survival with the help of United Downs Raceway and is asking the public to help by coming along to the event.

Taking place on September 3 and 4 between 11am and 10pm, guests are invited to put their racing skills to the test against a crack racing team of unicyclists, stilt scooterists and roller skaters or take on CN4C's 'Why Don't You?' Youth Club and their vehicular creations.

Entries must be pedal powered or human powered, no electric or engine driven vehicles and organisers are suggesting guests customise their bicycles, skateboards or roller skates, or even build a soap box car from scratch.

The event will also include Big Top Circus shows and circus workshops, from Airfish Circus and Next Gen Youth Circus inside the local circus company Boom Circus tent.

Silly games, fancy dress competitions and wacky races as well as a raffle will also win prizes for guests as well as the coveted 'winner's bling.'

Guests can also help local artist Cosmik Images grafitti up the entrance to the racetrack, with a live action workshop taking place all weekend.

A spokesperson for Cirque Du Ciel said: "We need to raise £70,000.00 in order to keep our current provisions going in the face of a dramatically increasing local need.

"Here at CdC we offer all kinds of additional practical and social support to the community, you can find out more about what we do on either day too.

"We are always looking for volunteers, and can't wait to share with you all of the training, learning, career development, performance, work experience, and creative fun opportunities we have for you to take advantage of.

"We really do hope to see you there! 'Cornwall! Start your 'engines', and may the best soapbox win!

"Shout out to the local Parish Councils, and local community groups and organisations, you are most welcome to enter a race vehicle on behalf of your parish or group contact Circus Works Devoran via Facebook or the contact page on our website and we will send you an application to enter."

Entrance costs £12 for a day ticket for a whole family, £5 per person or £2 FT students and the unemployed.

Families can also apply for free entry through a qualification process on the company website.
