A new McDonald’s restaurant, town centre improvements and new homes are among the latest planning applications submitted to Cornwall Council.

Dozens of applications are made every week, for everything from changing the use of a building to major housing developments.

No dates have been set for when these planning applications below will be determined. They can be viewed by going to the planning portal on Cornwall Council’s website at www.cornwall.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control

The three applications below are among the many which have been validated by the council in the last week:

Drive-thru restaurant, coffee shop and commercial units

A full planning application has been submitted for the commercial developments which form part of a wider scheme to build hundreds of new homes on the outskirts of Liskeard.

Willton Homes West has applied to build a drive-thru restaurant, a drive-thru coffee shop, a building supplies merchant and two light industrial start-up units at the site in Tencreek Farm, Liskeard.

A design and access statement submitted with the plans include a photograph of a McDonald’s restaurant to indicate the style of the drive-thru restaurant and plans for the drive-thru coffee shop appear similar in style to Costa outlets.

Town centre improvements for Helston

Helston Town Council has submitted a planning application for a number of works which form part of plans to create Helston Cultural Quarter. This will create a newly designated area in the town centre.

The scheme will aim to create a new pedestrian route linking the Guildhall, Museum of Cornish Life, Cornubian Arts and Science Trust and Wendron Street Car Park. In addition there will be new toilets created, new storage spaces and facilities such as bike racks.

A pre-application was submitted in January, read more details here: Pre-application submitted for 'Cultural Quarter' in Cornish town

It is part of a wider programme of improvements planned for Helston town centre which is subject of a £17million bid for funding from the Government’s Levelling Up fund. It had originally thought the bid would be for around £18m but documents submitted before the deadline show it to be closer to £17m.

A separate listed building consent application has also been submitted for the scheme. For more information about the planning application search for PA22/06238.

Three new homes for hamlet location

An outline planning application has been submitted to build up to three homes on land in Crowntown, between Helston and Praze. Mr and Mrs Bickford-Smith are the applicants who want to build the properties on a site next to the B3303.

A design and access statement submitted with the plans says that the development should be considered as infill as there are developments on either side of the site.

It states: “The proposal of up to three dwellings would be at a scale appropriate to its size and role of Crowntown, by virtue of the site being adjacent to existing development and contained with longstanding and enclosing boundary features.

"Hence the proposed development fills a gap in an otherwise continuous built-up frontage that does not physically extend into the open countryside. It is therefore considered to be an appropriate candidate for rounding off or infill development.”
