After a three-year absence St Keverne Ox Roast is returned yesterday (Saturday) to finally celebrate the 60th anniversary of the event.
Big crowds were reported in St. Keverne yesterday for the village band’s 60th Ox Roast.
One of the highlights of the event was the reunion band, made of past players over the years.
Due to Covid pandemic restrictions the event has not taken place since 2019.
However, St Keverne Band, which organises the event, pulled out all the stops to make the diamond anniversary one to remember.
Attendee Liz Richardson, a member of the Packet Camera Club who took these photographs, said: "Big crowds in St. Keverne yesterday for the Band’s 60th Ox Roast. The highlight was was the reunion band. Great to see so much talent from the young, and the not so young, players."
The event takes place in the village square, where the famous ox roast spit set up in front of the church from 8am, with the ox going on at 9am.
Traditionally the first slices of ox are auctioned off in aid of the band, before the rest of the crowd gathered forms a queue to buy slices of beef served simply in white bread.
The auction took place after the official opening of the event by Derek Johnston.
At 2.30pm the band and butchers marched to the square and St Keverne Senior Band played from 2.45pm until the opening.
