A BMW driver has faced the wrath of the law after being clocked driving 121mph in Cornwall yesterday.

However, when police stopped the man on the A30 they were not impressed by his excuse.

In attempt to explain his excessive speed, the driver is said to have told officers he was in a rush - to get to the beach.

Cornwall saw temperatures reach 25C on Sunday and crowds of people flocked to the coast across the Duchy.

However, the speed limit on the A30 at Bodmin remains at 70mph whatever the weather.

And if driving more than 50mph over the speed limit wasn't bad enough, police said they also spotted him "undertaking", by going past other vehicles on the inside lane.

However, after his trip to the beach it seems the driver now has another day out to look forward to - in a courtroom.

Posting a picture of the stopped car on social media, the Devon and Cornwall Roads Policing Team explained what happened, saying:

"The driver of this BMW came to our attention on the A30 Bodmin [Sunday] doing in excess of 121mph and undertaking vehicles dangerously.

"When he was stopped he got a shock to learn that rushing to the beach wasn't a valid excuse!

"Reported to court for dangerous driving."
