Residents in parts of Cornwall are being warned to take extra care and look out for vulnerable family and friends after an extreme heat warning for parts of Cornwall was issued.

The Met Office issued the amber warning earlier today (Tues Aug 9) for large parts of England and Wales, including some parts of Cornwall.

The extreme heat is set to arrive on Thursday, August 11 and last until Sunday, August 14, with the Met Office warning claiming: "Temperatures will increase across much of the UK over the coming week.

"Temperatures will be highest across parts of England and Wales with these peaking on Friday and Saturday.

"In addition to high daytime maxima, temperatures overnight will remain very warm, especially in larger urban areas.

"Adverse health effects are likely to be experienced by those vulnerable to extreme heat.

"The wider population are likely to experience some adverse health effects including sunburn or heat exhaustion and other heat related illnesses

"Some changes in working practices and daily routines are likely to be required

"An increased chance that some heat-sensitive systems and equipment may fail.

"Some delays to road, rail and air travel are possible, with potential for welfare issues for those who experience prolonged delays.

"Temperatures will increase across much of the UK over the coming week.

"Temperatures will be highest across parts of England and Wales with these peaking on Friday and Saturday.

"In addition to high daytime maxima, temperatures overnight will remain very warm, especially in larger urban areas."

Cornwall Council sent out a warning to local residents in a tweet that said: "The Met Office has issued an amber warning of extreme heat that covers part of Cornwall from Thursday to Sunday.

"Please take extra care and look out for vulnerable friends and family."
