Waste collection times have changed due to the heatwave temperatures currently being experienced across the Duchy.

After temperatures have soared during the past few days, Cornwall Council has announced that waste and recycling collection crews will be changing their hours in order to avoid the worst of the heat.

Rubbish recycling and garden waste due to be collected at 7am tomorrow, Thursday, August 11, and Friday, August 12, will instead bed collected an hour earlier at 6am in order to help collection crews stay out of the sun.

In a tweet published earlier today, a spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: "Due to the heatwave, rubbish, recycling and garden waste collections will take place from 6am in parts of Cornwall tomorrow and Friday to keep our crews safe.

"Earlier collections will take place in north, mid & east Cornwall where a Met Office Amber heat warning's in place.

"If you’re putting it out the night before, make sure it's covered so the gulls and other wildlife can’t get to it."

Cornwall Council announced similar changes back in July when extreme weather warnings were put out across parts of Cornwall.

These changes were put in place so as to help waste teams collecting waste avoid the worst of the heat.
