Both sides of the A30 have now reopened following a large fire earlier today.

However, there are still long queues and heavy traffic reported as a result of the incident, with people asked to avoid the area still for the time being.

In an update just after 6pm today (Friday) Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Both carriageways on the A30 in Cornwall have now reopened following a large fire near the A30 Redruth.

"Officers and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service remain at the scene. There is still heavy traffic and motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being."

Earlier smoke from the fire caused issues with visibility, leading to both carriageways being closed for atime.

The fire broke out on the verge of the A30, at Avers Junction in Redruth.

A fire crew from Tolvaddon was first on scene, with further crews sent as back-up.

The fire service said at the time: "We are on scene of a fire on the verge of the A30 at Avers Junction,Redruth.

"Tolvaddon CFRS are on scene and further resources are en-route."

The A30 bypass eastbound was partially blocked as a result, with traffic monitoring system INRIX reporting queuing traffic due to the fire on the verge.

This was the second fire this week near the A30, with a fire breaking out near Mitchell yesterday.

These latest fires come as an amber 'Extreme Heat' Weather Warning is now in force.
