Today marked the first day of Boardmasters Festival 2022, and, if you were a sun chaser, or some kind of lizard, then the weather could not have been better for it.

For those of us that didn't turn up on Wednesday for all five days, the day began with a scorching slog across the golden fields to the entrance.

Being with the press meant that the first thing we did was go and get our accreditation, so that we did, without the knowledge or wisdom to take our tent with us.

Once that was done, our journey continued to check out our campsite.

Falmouth Packet: A sea of tentsA sea of tents

We were located in what was described to us as VIP, along with thousands of other people, and decided that the bottom of the campsite would be where our prime location would most likely be found.

It was then, dear reader, that it dawned on us that we had not brought our tent with us on this exploratory excursion, and would need to travel back to the car in order to fetch it and bring it back.

Now, this was no ordinary luggage.

Our tent was a modest one, nothing fancy, however, we had decided, quite on a whim, to bring two military style camp beds with us which were made out of steel.

Fine, nothing wrong with that, right?

In theory yes, but what actually transpired is this intrepid reporter thought it was a good idea to carry both beds in the same bag, alongside the tent and his entire stash of beer, all on his back.

This was not a good decision.

When we checked the temperature, we were told 30 degrees Celsius

By the time we had gone back to the car and retrieved our belongings then got back to the spot we had chosen in our campsite, your faithful narrator had suffered the worst effects of heat stroke and his vision was no more.

This condition lasted most of the day and was only remedied by frequent and painful trips to the water refilling station and plenty of shaded rest.

We did eventually manage to leave the discomfort of the tent for the day's events and actually take part in the festivities we were sent here to cover.

We'll be reporting back on The Packet's live blog about last night's acts, so make sure you tune in for updates that, unlike yesterday, might actually come through.
