A warning has gone out not to swim in part of the Helford River today following reports of a "severe" oil spill.
With temperatures hitting 30C the Helford would normally see a large number of swimmers and kayakers cooling off in the water.
However, the National Trust has put out a notice to say that it has been contacted by the Environment Agency advising that diesel is spreading through the river this afternoon.
It is said to have been spilled at Port Navas this morning, but has now spread for 2km, to Durgan, Grebe and the Ferryboat Inn.
It has prompted a warning against swimming and paddling, as well as any open flames.
The Glendurgan National Trust team said: "We have been advised by the Environment Agency that there has been a severe oil spill on the Helford this morning, involving a couple of litres of diesel, starting in Port Navas, and has now made its way 2km past the Ferryboat Inn, Durgan and Grebe.
"We therefore advise that nobody goes swimming or paddling until any further updates are provided and please take extra care with any open flames at this already high risk time."
