Much of a roundabout in Truro has been submerged following a flood at the busy junction on Monday lunchtime.

Trafalgar roundabout in the capital of Cornwall was subject of the flood, which incidentally occurred on the same day as South West Water announced that there will be a hosepipe ban in Cornwall starting on Tuesday, August 23 at 00:01.

The flooding is thought to be as a result of thunderstorm that hit the city which resulted in heavy rain.

Traffic monitoring service INRIX says: "Very slow traffic due to flooding on A39 Morlaix Avenue both ways at B3284 St Austell Street (Trafalgar roundabout). Social media video shows traffic is passing by but very slowly, police are on scene."

Cornwall has been subject of a three-day amber warning for thunderstorms following the news that the county placed under a drought status last week.

The Met Office says that during thunderstorms people can expect to see: "Spray and sudden flooding probably leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures."

It has today upgraded its weather warning for thunderstorms in Cornwall to amber.
