80% of driving under the influence arrests made in Devon and Cornwall last month involved men according to figures released by the police force on Monday morning.

While the average age of arrests for driving under the influence of drink or drugs was 36 years-old.

This update follows on from news last week where police revealed that during the five-day festival of Boardmasters, the roads policing operation led to 13 impaired drivers being taken off the road.

Police advice to drivers as stated on their website states: "Don't drink and drive. The only safe limit is none.

"Beware of the morning after. You could still be over the limit.

"Plan how to get home without the need to drive.

"Don't offer an alcoholic drink to someone you know is planning to drive.

"Don't accept a lift from a driver you know has drunk alcohol."

In Devon and Cornwall there were 14,185 roadside breath tests in 2015 and 1,692 arrests.
