Redruth Town Band will welcome guest soloists this September as they celebrate 200 years of banding.

On Sunday, September 4 cornet player Kevin Ashman along with piano player Dr. Howard Evans will join the band at St Andrew's Church, Redruth. The performance will start at 7.30pm and donations are requested instead of tickets, everyone is welcome.

To celebrate the band's 200th year, they will be performing a broad and varied repertoire including pieces such as Prismatic Light, Sinfonietta, Lovely Jubilee, The Floral Dance, A Happy Day, and Irish Blessing to name a few.

Kevin will be performing solo pieces covering 200 years of the cornet and trumpet, whilst Dr. Howard Evans will accompany and perform several piano solos.

“Howard Evans is a giant in the Brass Band movement and has a well-deserved place within the ranks of all-time legends. Arranger, the composer, conductor, adjudicator, band trainer, and piano soloist extraordinaire, very rarely do you discover all those gifts embodied in one person.”

“Kevin Ashman is a first-class Trumpet and Soprano/Cornet soloist, with a well-established reputation for musical excellence. Kevin is amazingly gifted and flexible, and he will demonstrate this during our Bi-Centennial Celebration Concert, as he features a range of instruments, some dating back two centuries”.

It is an incredibly exciting time for the Band, having been promoted from the fourth to second section over the last three years, by successfully competing in the Regional and National Brass Band Championships of the United Kingdom.

They have recently engaged a Professional Conductor, David Nicholson, one of the UK’s leading Musical Directors, to lead them through and into the second section. Breathing life into the band and creating a legacy for the future.
