Cornish fans of children's wear brand Frugi may be pleased to hear it is opening a new shop in Helston.

The organic clothing brand first opened a dedicated store in town in January 2018, opposite its warehouse on the Water-ma-Trout industrial estate.

It was an expansion of the small rail of new range and sale clothes that had been in the reception area of its head office, meaning the company could offer a fuller range of each line in various sizes, where families living locally could try on the clothes before buying.

The shop closed its doors during the Covid pandemic lockdowns, before Frugi announced in April this year that it would not be reopening.

At the time, a Frugi spokesperson told the Packet that due to an increase in the number of employees there had been an office space reshuffle, meaning there was no longer enough space for a retail shop.

Sarah Clark, who took over as CEO of Frugi last year, later said that events such as The Big Frugi Sale, a new version of the company's old 'warehouse sales', but held at different locations, would be in place of any discount store in Helston.

However, the company has announced today (Wednesday) that a shop would be returning to Helston – and opening its doors tomorrow (Thursday).

In a statement on its Facebook page and website titled "New Frugi shop in Helston, Cornwall," it said: "We are so excited to announce that after closing our doors in March 2020, We are now reopening our Frugi shop in Helston, Cornwall, on Thursday 8th September from 1.30pm.

"Filled with a mixture of discounted items from previous seasons, we cannot wait to welcome you into our shiny new shop so you can search for your favourite Frugi goodies and we cannot wait to welcome you all back."

It said the shop would still be on the Wheal Vrose Business Park, part of the wider Water-ma-Trout industrial estate, but would be across the road from its previous store, in the downstairs of its headquarters.

The shop entrance will be underneath the 'Frugi HQ' sign.

The new shop will open at 1.30pm tomorrow (Thursday) for people to look around until 4.30pm.

From Friday onwards the shop will be open 9am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, closed at weekends.

It is not known at this point whether it will offer the same option as before, allowing customers to place orders online and then pick up in store, to save on postage and delivery miles.

The company, originally set up in 2004 by Lucy and Kurt Jewson from their kitchen table in Constantine, before opening their first headquarters at Gear near St Martin and then moving to Helston, was taken over by London-based investment firm True in July 2018.

Last year Sarah Clark took over from Hugo Adams as CEO of Frugi and in March this year Margaret McDonald was appointed as the group’s new chair, with experience as global president of Victoria’s Secret and a senior executive for GAP Inc, Banana Republic and Primark.

Frugi has also opened an outlet shop at Clarks Village in Somerset, which opened in December last year.
