An annual charity motorbike run due to take place this weekend has been postponed out of a mark of respect for the late Queen.

David Saunby, organiser of the Martin Jennings Memorial Motorcycle Run, announced this morning that Sunday's event would be moved to a later date.

It was initially thought it may be held the following Sunday, September 18, but now it has been announced the new date will be Sunday, September 25, once the funeral has taken place.

He said: "Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, it is with deep regret that this Sunday's Jennings Run has been postponed as a mark of respect.

"Please be rest assured the run will happen, even though it's later than planned through these unfortunate circumstances.

"I feel confident that the public will respect us for the actions taken to postpone this Sunday's run."

This year will mark the 35th anniversary of the event, first held in 1988 in memory of Martin Jennings of Beacon, Camborne, who sadly lost his life competing in the 1987 Isle of Man Manx GP. It also remembers many other bikers that have lost their lives on the roads of Cornwall,

Over the past 35 years it has raised in the region of £150,000 for local and national charities, and this year will be in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care.

More than 1,000 motorcyclists are expected to take part when the run is eventually held.

It will leave Tregurra Park and Ride Car Park Truro at 11am on the day, and arrive at the finish in Falmouth at 4pm.
